Random Rope Grid

June 15, 2023: V0 launched, built in Blender 3.5.1

What: Blender Geometry Nodes + Modifiers setup that enables you to generate a grid of curves with sections missing, then drop it over your scene for a messy arrangement of cables.

Why: I wanted something more "random" than drawing curves, but not as organized as a grid. I made this quick node setup, then ran it through Cloth Physics and Subdivison Surface, and it worked gangbusters for me. It's non-destructive, so if you're unhappy with the way things are falling, you can tweak values to produce something new.

How:

1) Add a mesh. Add Geometry Nodes modifier to it.

2) Append the JeremyInPost_RopeGrid_V0 object to your scene.

3) Adjust values to your liking.

4) Make your scene objects have Collision physics activated. Make sure your RopeGrid object has Cloth Physics.

5) Press play in the timeline to allow your RopeGrid to fall. You can then find a frame that you like, apply the cloth modifier, and edit any unwanted sections.
